Plus an unforgettable climb up an unrestored stretch of the Great Wall. The climb is dubbed by Frommers as one of the greatest China experiences. Its a 30-tower climb from Jinshanling to Simatai that lasted for almost 5 hours. Not for the faint-hearted, I swear! (Canon Ixus 500) |

| | Where is my Shangrila? This is it, so the Chinese government claims. Zhongdian is a small town on the road between Lijiang and Tibet. In 2002, it was renamed Shangrila (Xianggelila) as in the paradise that James Hilton imagined in his novel The Lost Horizon. Altho the dusty town may not be exactly Shangrila, the surrounding area offers whoa-inspiring scenery. (Canon Ixus 700) |
| | The ancient town of Lijiang is now my most favorite place in the whole wide world. Why? It's got gorgeous old wooden houses, clear canals, charming guesthouses, snowy mountains, amazing Naxi people, etc... It was the first stop of my Yunnan province adventure with Luyi. Lijiang was declared a World Heritage a few years ago and has become a top destination for travelers in China. The old town is now very touristy (lots of local tour groups) but still hasn't lost its charm. The guesthouses in Lijiang are a dime a dozen, so cheap and so many choices we decided to stay in a different one everyday. (Canon Ixus 700) |
| | My first solo travel in China. Who says not knowing Mandarin will be a problem. I hired a guide who doesnt know English either. So we communicated with our hands. Hooked up with fellow solo travelers and had the best time of my life. (Canon Ixus 700) |
